Work crews will soon tackle safety upgrades at 11 key spots across Ocean County. The fixes span five towns, bringing much-needed changes to traffic signals and road markings.
In Jackson Township, workers will update safety markings on Bennetts Mills Road-Aldrich Road, a vital stretch that sees heavy morning rush hour traffic. The changes target spots where passing other cars puts drivers at risk.
Princeton Avenue in Brick Township will see fresh traffic signals at three major crossings. New lights at Midstreams Road, Beaver Dam Road, and Brushy Neck Drive aim to cut down wait times near the stores.
Near Barnegat 67 Plaza, two spots will get modern traffic controls. The updates will help cars move smoothly between the Garden State Parkway's south ramps and Lighthouse Crossing.
The biggest changes come to Lacey Township. Workers will install new signals at four busy spots along Lacey Road. The work stretches from GSP Exit 74 to Newark Avenue, hitting Lake Barnegat Drive and Deerhead Lake Drive in between.
In Little Egg Harbor, one crossing gets an upgrade. The Radio Road and Oak Lake spot, which backs up during beach season, will see better traffic control.
Each spot was picked based on crash data and traffic jams. The work targets places where cars stack up: near stores, highway exits, and busy local streets.
This push for better roads adds to past safety work. The changes aim to stop crashes and speed up trips across town. Short-term pain from construction should lead to smoother drives later.
Officials haven't set dates for the work to start. They're still working out when crews will show up at each spot.
