A nationwide documentary screening tour led by Ryan Reynolds will honor the late John Candy. The profits will help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Starting Sept. 23, screens across North America will light up with memories.
"Movies bring people together and millions of people came together to watch John Candy," said Ryan Reynolds in a statement to PR Newswire. "I am so excited to share our film on a big screen and to share the stage with some of the people who knew him best as they share their memories of the man."
Fresh footage and untold stories fill John Candy: I Like Me. Colin Hanks, who earned Emmy nominations, steered this tribute to the comic master. Prime Video streams it starting Oct. 10.
Amazon MGM Studios joined with Mills Entertainment and Maximum Effort on this project. With backing from Clearly Canadian, the screenings will reach major markets: Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Boston.
New Brunswick's State Theatre in New Jersey hosts the Sept. 25 showing. At 7:00 p.m., guests will watch the film and stay for talks with those who knew Candy best.
"This experience is intended to feel like a gathering of friends — watching the film together and sharing personal stories that remind us why John Candy still matters," said Michael Mills, CEO of Mills Entertainment, according to PR Newswire.
At each stop, Dan Pasternak and Kevin McCarthy will guide talks about the star's mark on entertainment. Candy died in 1994 at 43, but his work still makes us laugh.
Tickets cost $59 plus fees. The box office opens sales on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 10:00 a.m. Call guest services Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or buy online.
