A new sports wonderland will burst onto the scene at Newport Centre when Dick's opens its mega-store on Sept. 19. This isn't your standard shop: it's a sprawling 85,000-square-foot space where visitors can swing bats, climb walls, and test their golf skills on high-tech simulators.
Taking up the old Sears space on the mall's second floor, this marks the first such store in New Jersey. The Simon Property Group mall will host this mix of retail and active play zones, setting a fresh standard for sports shopping.
"It's not just shopping, it's a whole vibe," Newport Centre said in a statement to NJBIZ.
By late 2027, up to 100 of these activity-packed stores will pop up across the country. New Jersey shoppers can look forward to three more spots coming to Cherry Hill, Freehold, and Rockaway malls.
Sports stars will light up the grand opening from Sept. 19-21. Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez stops by on the 20th from noon to 1:30 p.m. The next day, New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns meets fans from noon to 1 p.m.
Early birds win big during opening weekend. The first hundred adults each day snag gift cards, while a hundred kids get free soccer balls. Water bottles await the first 300 visitors daily. Smart shoppers can grab $10 off when spending over $50.
Fresh off its $2.4 billion Foot Locker deal on Sept. 8, the merged company now runs over 3,200 stores worldwide across 20 countries.
Want to meet the sports stars? Show up when doors open: Sept. 20 for Rodriguez, Sept. 21 for Towns. Wristbands go fast, so don't sleep in.
