Atlantic City’s Cocorico Beach Bar Moving to New Spot After Noise Complaints

Next summer will bring big changes as Cocorico Beach Bar shifts to a new spot near Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. announced Wednesday.
The spot will move between Bellevue and Georgia Avenues by John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza. Ocean Club Condo dwellers' constant noise gripes pushed the change forward.
"This is not about this group — this is any other group that wants to entertain a beach bar in front of that beach," Small said per NJ.com. "We're going to do this beach how we do every other beach — fair and open, be it chairs and umbrellas and more. But, one thing it will not be is a beach bar."
After a decade at its first spot, the bar needs fresh permits. State environmental officials back the switch, though the Casino Authority still must sign off.
The move should wrap up as leaves turn brown in October, says owner Domenico Gaggiano. His partner Steven Tabeek thinks condo folks might pitch in for moving costs: that's still up in the air.
This summer hit a sour note when music blasted past 4 a.m., breaking beach rules. The final straw came when condo owners sued over a Caribbean music fest called BRT Weekend, forcing it elsewhere.
"I'm very happy for today, let's put it that way," said Iris Pincus, who lives in the condominiums. "I don't know what tomorrow brings. I don't know what next summer brings. When you see it, I'll believe it, and not before then."
Asked if new neighbors might bring fresh troubles, Gaggiano shrugged. "Who knows, anything is possible," he told the press.
Though owners cut hours back this summer to keep the peace, tensions stayed high. Small made it clear: once Cocorico goes, no new bars will take its sandy spot.
