Cadette Troop 61454 installed quarter-mile markers on the Edgar Felix Bikeway, stretching from Manasquan to Allaire State Park. Their work earned them the prestigious Silver Award.

The scouts placed bright markers along the bike path and throughout Wall Municipal Complex. Now, trail users can pinpoint their location during emergencies. The simple yet smart fix makes the path much safer for everyone.

"[We] liked the idea of improving our local bike path because it provides our friends and neighbors the ability to be part of a larger community and experience more of what our state has to offer," the troop said, according to Patch.

This path links to the Route 18 Bike Path, forming part of the in-progress Capital to Coast Trail. When finished, bikers will zip from Trenton straight to the shore.

At Wednesday's ribbon-cutting, Wall Township officials presented the Silver Award. Committee Members Erin Managan and Timothy Farrell watched the scouts cut the ribbon at the Manasquan entrance.

For Cadettes, the Silver Award stands as their highest achievement. Each scout must spot a community need, take charge of a solution, and create lasting change.

Local support made the project possible. Wall Township Police and Public Works pitched in with guidance, while Ricciardi Brothers, Sherwin-Williams, Traffic Lines Inc. and Lowe's donated materials. The combined effort turned the troop's vision into reality.
