The Atlantic City Marathon Race Series picked the G. Larry James Foundation to sponsor the 2025 Atlantic City 5K. The October event brings fresh energy to a long-standing tradition of athletic achievement and community spirit.
"It is an honor to have the race named after my husband, Larry James," said Cynthia James, chair of the G. Larry James Foundation, per DownBeach.com. "We are thankful to partner with the Marjorie & Lewis Katz JCC to help keep his legacy alive. Larry loved seeing people succeed, especially young people, and he believed in 'keeping the main thing the main thing, because you become what you think you are.'"
This race stands among the oldest in America. Athletes run past the waves on Absecon Island, taking in ocean views while crossing Atlantic City's famous Boardwalk. The Marjorie & Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center of Atlantic County runs the show with skill and care.
"The JCC is honored to manage the Atlantic City Marathon Race Series and to create experiences where everyone, from first-time 5K participants to elite marathoners, feels welcome," said Race Director Genia Sperling.
Eric Share, who leads the race committee, spoke with pride about the new partnership. "Larry James was a champion on and off the track, and this partnership celebrates his commitment to athletic achievement and community engagement," Share said.
The action starts Oct. 18. Shorter races kick off at 9 a.m., with winners crowned by 10:30. The next day brings the big events: marathon and half marathon runners hit the streets at 8 a.m. Morning winners get their due at 10:30, while afternoon ceremonies honor age group stars at 1:30.
Each finisher takes home a medal, gets free pro photos, and snags a special shirt. Runners grab their gear at Bally's Treymore Ballroom: Oct. 18 from 3-7 p.m. or Oct. 19 from noon to 5.
