A fresh study by SmartAsset puts two New Jersey towns in the top 20 safest suburbs across America. The research, which checked 360 areas near big cities, ranks Edgewater at 8th and Fort Lee at 18th.

SmartAsset's team dug into key safety markers. They tracked street accidents, break-ins, and attacks in places with more than 5,000 people living there.

In Edgewater, where 14,544 folks call home, attacks stayed rare at 0.0006 per person. Break-ins hit 0.0142 per person. Street deaths stayed low at 4.3982 for every 100,000 people.

Fort Lee showed strong safety stats too. With its bigger group of 39,818 people, attacks stayed at 0.0076 per person. Break-ins reached 0.0262 per person. Like Edgewater, road deaths stayed at 4.3982 per 100,000 folks.

The numbers tell an odd story about suburb life now. While attacks went up from 198 to 231, break-ins dropped from 733 to 706.

Living safe costs money in these spots. People in Edgewater pay $2,769 monthly for homes, with most earning $137,847 yearly. Fort Lee costs less at $2,055 per month, where folks bring in about $105,535 each year.

Hoboken and Williamstown made the safe list too. But the top spots went to Lehi in Utah, Bethesda near DC, and Great Falls in Virginia.

Both towns saw similar health issues. Drug deaths hit 19.2795 per 100,000 people, while 18.52% of grown-ups said they drank too much.

The work checked places near major cities, helping folks who might want to move. McKinney and Frisco in Texas made the cut. So did Dacula and Buford in Georgia, plus some Indiana spots like Noblesville, Fishers, and Carmel.
