Showboat Resort Atlantic City acquired 30 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs from Field Station: Dinosaurs. The resort will construct an attraction beside its beachfront property. Spring 2026 marks the planned opening.
Field Station: Dinosaurs revealed the move on Nov. 6. The Bergen County location shut down for good one day later. Four final days of operation ran from Nov. 6–9 in Leonia, wrapping up 13 years at the site.
Over 1 million visitors have passed through since it opened. Situated in Overpeck County Park, the venue drew children and adults with walking trails, live entertainment, and hands-on activities.
"Knowing that our dinosaurs will live on and continue their mission of sparking curiosity and imagination is the perfect ending to our story," said Guy Gsell, executive producer of Field Station: Dinosaurs, according to NJBiz. "We're incredibly proud of the experience we created here in Leonia and excited to see it evolve in Atlantic City."
This purchase represents another step in Showboat Atlantic City's growth. Back in January, the resort — owned by Bart Blatstein — received $4.2 million from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. That money funds an expansion of its Family Entertainment Center.
The Atlantic City Revitalization Grant Program supplied the money. Plans call for adding 18,000 square feet to the Lucky Snake Arcade and Raceway.
The project brings in more arcade games. It also adds attractions. An open-air entryway will be built along the boardwalk.
New food and beverage outlets are coming. A 10-lane bowling alley will be installed, plus a kids play area with private party rooms.
Visitors can post memories and photos with @Jerseyaurus and #fondfarewellfsd tags on social media. Ticket information for the final Leonia days will be available at JerseyDinos.com through Nov. 9.
