The Ocean County Board of Commissioners approved buying land to rebuild Brewers Bridge in Jackson Township. They voted to purchase three parcels for right-of-way and easement access along Brewers Bridge Road.
These parcels will give workers room for construction equipment and roadway upgrades for the crossing over the South Branch of the Metedeconk River. If sellers refuse, commissioners authorized property exchange or condemnation.
The project targets better safety. It will maintain a critical roadway link. Workers plan to install a new deck, add modern safety features, and fix drainage systems.
Brewers Bridge carries local traffic over the waterway — it's designated No. 1511-005. Age and wear made replacement necessary.
County engineers expect the work to improve traffic flow and protect drivers and pedestrians for years ahead. Jackson has grown, which makes this roadway connection vital.
The county wants to bring bridges and roads up to current standards. This project fits that goal. Final design will start once officials finish acquiring the land.
Construction scheduling follows the design phase. When will crews break ground? That hasn't been announced yet.
The right-of-way and easements guarantee sufficient space during work on the bridge and surrounding roads. Heavy equipment and staging areas need the acquired parcels.
The South Branch of the Metedeconk River runs through Jackson Township and nearby communities. It's a key waterway in the region.
Ocean County keeps investing in infrastructure throughout its towns. The Brewers Bridge project joins several other efforts to replace worn-out structures.
The board's vote pushes the planning process ahead. Nobody opposed the land acquisition at the meeting.
County officials haven't disclosed the project cost. They didn't detail where funding will come from either.
