Brick Township Approves $10K Grant To Feed Seniors Through Meals on Wheels

This money supports meal delivery and wellness checks. Over 200 residents will get more than 34,000 meals each year.

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA - JUNE 22: Meals on Wheels client Eleanor Lebang accepts her touch-free meal delivery on June 22, 2020 in Canberra, Australia. Meals on Wheels has implemented additional hygiene and safety measures to protect against the spread of coronavirus following the COVID-19 outbreak in Australia. To minimise contact and risk to clients, staff and volunteers, Meals on Wheels has modified its service to deliver frozen meals to elderly clients three times a week, instead of daily fresh food deliveries. Delivery drivers use hand sanitiser between each drop-off, and no longer bring food packages into clients' homes, with deliveries now dropped at the door to maintain social distance. ()

Brick Township awarded a $10,024 grant to Meals on Wheels of Ocean County. This money supports meal delivery and wellness checks. Over 200 residents will get more than 34,000 meals each year.

Mayor Lisa Crate and the municipal government approved the grant. The nonprofit thanked township leaders for their continued backing.

The program brings food to older adults. But it does more than that. Volunteers also conduct safety checks and provide social interaction for seniors who might otherwise sit alone.

Township leaders show a strong commitment to caring for vulnerable residents, according to Jersey Shore Online. The organization reaches hundreds through its delivery service.

Meals on Wheels of Ocean County brings nutritious food to those who can't prepare meals themselves. Aging residents get proper nutrition while staying in their homes.

Wellness checks let volunteers monitor participant health and safety. These visits may be the only human contact some seniors receive during their day.

The township grant maintains current service capacity. Operations can continue without cuts to the number served or delivery frequency.

Over 200 township residents depend on daily meals from this program. Meals on Wheels reaches those facing challenges with food preparation due to age, disability, or health conditions.

The nonprofit operates throughout Ocean County, working in multiple municipalities. Government grants, donations, and volunteer support keep operations going.

Township officials backed the program in previous years. The latest grant extends that partnership.
