Millburn Township will require all commuter and business parking permit applications to be submitted online starting Friday, Dec. 12. No more in-person visits.

The change affects 2026 permits. It marks a major shift as the town prepares to move to a new system.

Applications will be accepted through the web portal for all permit types. Drivers will receive an email notification when their permit is ready. Pickup happens at 22 East Willow St.

"This year as we prepare to transition to a new system, applications will be online ONLY for all permit types," the township advisory states, according to Patch.

The township posted the advisory to alert residents about the procedural change. Previous years allowed for both online and in-person submissions, giving people options.

Commuter permits allow residents to park in designated areas near transit stations, making daily travel easier. Business permits serve employees and customers of local establishments.

The online-only requirement aims to streamline how applications get processed. Township officials hope the web-based system will reduce wait times and boost efficiency for applicants and staff alike.

Residents needing assistance with the online application can find instructions and resources on the township website. The portal includes step-by-step guides for completing forms. It also shows how to upload required documents.

All applicants must provide proof of residency or business ownership. Payment will be processed through the online system as well.

The township hasn't announced when the new system will be operating at full capacity. Officials indicated the current online-only approach serves as preparation for the upcoming transition, though specific dates remain unclear.

More information about parking permits is available on the township website at twp.millburn.nj.us/215/Parking-Information.
