Downtown Somerville will host Puppy Pawlooza on April 26 from noon to 4 p.m.

The celebration brings pet-friendly vendors, education groups, and a DJ emcee to the streets. Live demonstrations, animal rescues, and adoption chances will fill the afternoon hours.

Pet contests happen during the gathering, and a free rabies vaccine clinic will help attendees keep their dogs healthy. Photo opportunities and a puppy stroll are also planned.

Doggy contests and giveaways will be part of what's happening. The Somerset Patriots will sponsor the gathering.

Animal rescues will be on site to connect people with dogs searching for homes — adoption chances give families a way to meet pets needing placement.

Education groups will share information that pet owners can use. Vendors will offer products and services designed for dogs and their families.

The free rabies vaccine clinic addresses a key health need in the area. Vaccinations will be given during the four-hour window.

The DJ emcee will provide entertainment and announcements throughout the afternoon, while live demonstrations will show training techniques and other skills that dog owners can learn.

Photo opportunities will give families a way to capture memories with their pets — the puppy stroll will let dogs and owners walk together through downtown streets.

The contests will let dogs compete in different categories. Winners get recognition during the gathering.

Giveaways will be handed out to participants throughout the afternoon, and sponsors plus vendors will provide prizes for attendees who show up.
