Monmouth County officials and the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee have launched a competition for artists who work with computers and screens. Both professionals and hobbyists can enter if they're 14 or older.

The contest celebrates talent as the nation prepares to mark 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed. That milestone arrives on July 4, 2026.

Winners get cash. Each first-place winner in the professional and non-professional categories will receive $1,776 — a nod to the year America declared independence. Second and third place finishers also get prizes. Artists must register before they can submit their work.

"We are thrilled to launch the first-ever County Digital Art Competition — a groundbreaking opportunity for local artists to unleash their creativity in the digital space," said Christine G. Hanlon, Monmouth County Clerk and Co-Chair of the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee, according to The Monmouth Journal Eastern. "We hope this contest sparks fresh passion and deeper appreciation for Monmouth County's extraordinary legacy and its vital role in American history."

MonmouthNJ 250 Committee Co-Chair Thomas A. Arnone wants artists to make powerful work that grabs attention. He serves as Commissioner Director, too.

"With America's Semiquincentennial coming in about six months from now, we want our entire community to be inspired, engaged, and ready to take part in celebrating our nation's 250th birthday," said Arnone.

Artists get a chance to show their skills while making something that lasts. The Board of County Commissioners created the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee back in 2023. They knew planning for such a big event would take time.

Hanlon and Arnone lead the group as co-chairs. They've been organizing events and activities for the celebration.

The MonmouthNJ250.org website has all the details artists need. That includes deadlines, themes, who can enter, how judges will score entries, and what each prize is worth. The registration page lives there, too.
