Teaneck Approves Holocaust Memorial and Education Center, Fundraising Push Begins

The Teaneck Township Council approved the Northern New Jersey Holocaust Memorial and Education Center. The memorial will sit on the Teaneck Municipal Green, serving communities across the region.

Steve Fox co-chairs this project. He said the council's decision pushes the work into its next critical phase.

"The final approval from the council solidifies our efforts to get our project to the next stage," said Fox, according to Jewish Link. "We now have to make a strong fundraising push to get a shovel in the ground in the next few months."

Breaking ground could happen soon. But organizers need money first. They must raise funds before construction can start on the Municipal Green.

Fox thanked local officials who backed the memorial. "We want to thank the mayor and the council members for their vote of confidence and look forward to blessing our community with an amazing, interactive Holocaust educational experience along with a mechanism to honor the victims," he said.

The center will teach visitors about the Holocaust through hands-on activities and exhibits. It creates a space where people can remember and honor those who died during the genocide.

All of Northern New Jersey will benefit. Once built, the facility opens its doors to communities throughout the area, giving them access to these learning opportunities.

The vote split along predictable lines. Five council members supported it, while two stepped back without taking a position either way. The mayor joined the majority in allowing construction to proceed on town property.
