ALDI swung open its doors on Dec. 11 at Deptford Town Center. This marks the second mid-sized supermarket to arrive in the Township within six months. The national chain held its grand opening before a large crowd, giving residents another shopping option a quarter mile from Grocery Outlet, which opened on June 12.

"It's a tremendous addition to Deptford Township," Mayor Paul Medany said, according to the Sun Newspapers. "We have two supermarkets now after all these years of having just the opposite of the big boxes. Residents are happy."

The new store opened after crews fixed electrical issues and passed final inspections. ALDI is part of a seven-retailer package that the Township secured for space previously occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond and its sister stores at the center.

The German grocer opened more than 200 locations in 2025 to become the third largest supermarket chain in the U.S. Last year, the company announced plans to open 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028. This will bring its footprint to 3,200 stores.

Construction began in June to make way for the new stores. Tractor Supply Co. had a soft opening on Sept. 27. A grand opening followed on Oct. 4.

The other retailers moving into the space include Nordstrom Rack, Blinds To Go, First Watch, Aspen Dental, and Chase Bank. First Watch and Blinds to Go will open in spring 2026, while Nordstrom Rack, Aspen Dental, and Chase Bank will open in mid-summer next year.

Mayor Paul Medany said the opening two weeks before Christmas caps a strong year for the Township. Deptford Mall entered 2026 with zero vacancies. On Nov. 19, the former Joann fabrics store became a Going, Going, Gone! shop owned and operated by Dick's Sporting Goods.

"We have very few empty stores," Medany said. "[Deptford Mall] is 100% occupied. It's been a fantastic year."

The Southern New Jersey Development Council recognized Medany's team with an Economic Development Award on Oct. 17. Retail now accounts for over 60% of the Township's ratable base.

A second movie theater is under construction with Delaware businessman Arthur Helmick developing a $15 million Deptford Movies 10 theater at Clements Bridge Road and Caulfield Avenue. Next to the theater, Scott Family Honda will break ground in spring 2026.

"We're attracting people to Deptford Township," Medany said. "We're surrounded by 11 towns, and residents from other towns are coming here, which we welcome."
