Allegiant Air launched service at Atlantic City International Airport on Dec. 11, becoming the second scheduled carrier at the facility. Spirit Airlines had been the sole operator there since 1993. The Las Vegas-based airline kicked off operations with flights to Fort Lauderdale. Three more Florida destinations followed.
Flights to Orlando Sanford began Dec. 19. Two additional routes — St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport and Punta Gorda Airport — will commence Feb. 13, 2026.
The Fort Lauderdale route offers seven to eight flights monthly. That frequency will jump to six weekly one-way flights starting Feb. 11, 2026, according to aviation analytics provider Cirium. Orlando Sanford service operates twice weekly. The St. Pete–Clearwater and Punta Gorda routes? They'll each run twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.
Allegiant will compete head-to-head with Spirit on the Fort Lauderdale route, where Spirit runs up to two daily flights. Spirit also serves Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, and Tampa from the New Jersey facility.
The airport sits in Egg Harbor Township, northwest of central Atlantic City. It opened in 1942 as a Naval Air Station before converting to civilian use decades later.
American International Airways was among the first to run passenger flights after the conversion. That carrier tried to build a hub using Douglas DC-9 aircraft to Boston, Chicago, Miami, and Orlando before ending operations in 1999.
Several carriers have attempted service over the years with mixed results. United Airlines launched routes to Chicago O'Hare and Houston in April 2014 but dropped both later that year. WestJet operated flights to Toronto until May 9, 2010. Air Canada ran seasonal summer flights to Toronto in 2015 but didn't return.
Sun Country Airlines operated charter flights in 2022 to Manchester–Boston Regional Airport, St. Petersburg, and Pensacola. Cirium data shows no charter services scheduled after that period.
American Airlines connects the facility to its Philadelphia hub through its Landline bus partnership, which links smaller markets where regional aircraft wouldn't be economically viable. Atlantic City was among the first locations included alongside Allentown.
