Benjamin Brothers True Value Hardware will shut its doors Jan. 31, 2026. The shop has served Tenafly for over 80 years, and its owners broke the news through Facebook.

"We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our customers for their continued support and patronage throughout the years," read the farewell post. "It has been an honor to serve Tenafly and the surrounding communities, and we are deeply grateful for the memories, relationships, and experiences we have gained along the way."

The N. Summit Street location stocks lumber, power tools, and supplies for decks. More than a dozen brands fill the shelves.

This business began as a lumber yard when soldiers returned from World War II and needed housing. It transformed into a hardware operation in 1963. When reporters from NorthJersey.com called on Dec. 22, the owner wouldn't share her name.

Shoppers took to social media to mourn the loss. One wrote "So many memories and friendships that I have through the years!! Always one of my stops when I went up north."

Families have been coming here for generations. Another person posted "Oh noooo! I used to go there with my father back in the 70/80s."

Returns? They won't take them after Jan. 1, 2026. House accounts will stop too.

The shop opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m., but it won't be open Christmas or New Year's Day.
