Whole Foods Market launched its first Daily Shop in New Jersey on Dec. 18. The store sits inside what used to be a bank at 101 Washington St. in Hoboken. This 4,851-square-foot shop brings a compact design built for quick trips and ready-made meals.

The building goes back to 1927. That's when Hoboken Savings Bank tore down three apartment houses and put up this structure. A Walgreens ran here until November 2023.

"Opening our first store in Hoboken is an exciting milestone, and we're grateful for the warm welcome from the neighborhood," said store team leader Victor Luciano, in a news release. "We look forward to providing the community with great service, grocery essentials that meet our high quality standards and quick grab and go meals to make their lives easier."

More than 250 suppliers from the Northeast stock this shop. New Jersey companies like Hoboken Farms make pasta sauce you'll find on shelves, and Undercover Snacks brings crisps. The 365 by Whole Foods Market name appears on many items too.

Whole Foods blocks hydrogenated fats and high-fructose corn syrup. They won't sell products with over 300 banned flavors, colors, sweeteners, or additives. Fresh produce lines the aisles. You can grab meat, seafood, baked items that change with the seasons, hot meals and basics for your pantry.

Amazon Prime members score deals all year at this spot. They get discounts on certain products each week, plus another 10% off hundreds of sale items throughout the store. People can scan their palm with Amazon One or use the Whole Foods Market app. The Amazon app works too.

Berries fly off the shelves at other Daily Shop stores, the chain reports. Grapes and avocados sell fast. Rotisserie chicken and other ready-to-eat options pull in crowds.

This Austin-based company started in 1980. It has put three Daily Shop stores in New York City and one in Arlington, Virginia, since March 2024 when the concept kicked off. Brooklyn gets another location in early 2025.

Hudson County now has three Whole Foods sites. The other two full-size stores run in downtown Jersey City and at Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken. Whole Foods is giving money to The Hoboken Shelter and Hoboken Community Center.

The Daily Shop runs from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Walk a few blocks and you hit the train station.
