Monmouth County Opens Registration for Flag Day 5K Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary

Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners and the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee launched sign-ups for the Stars & Strides Flag Day 5K and 1-Mile Freedom Walk. It happens Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Bell Works in Holmdel.

Sign-up costs $30. After May 14, you'll pay $35.

"As an avid runner, I can't think of a more exciting way to help celebrate America's 250th birthday than with a patriotic, high-energy event like the Stars & Strides Flag Day 5K & 1-Mile Freedom Walk," said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, Co-Chair of the MonmouthNJ 250 Committee, according to New Jersey Stage. "We invite everyone to sign up for this once-in-a-lifetime race and wear plenty of red, white, and blue as we honor our incredible country during this historic milestone."

The 1-Mile Freedom Walk isn't timed. Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, who co-chairs the committee, wants residents to join the race and check out programs happening throughout 2026.

"The MonmouthNJ 250 Committee has been working tirelessly to prepare for this monumental anniversary, organizing special events such as the Stars & Strides Flag Day 5K and 1-Mile Freedom Walk," said Christine Giordano Hanlon. "We encourage everyone to participate in this signature race and explore the many other programs planned throughout 2026."

Money raised goes to Friends of the Monmouth County Park System, which funds park upgrades — preserving historical sites and nature areas, creating chances for city youth to get outside, and building programs for people with disabilities.
