George Street Playhouse brings two performances to The Arthur Laurents Theater in February 2026. Joy Behar appears Feb. 13-15 in My First Ex-Husband. Candace Bushnell takes the stage Feb. 19 with True Tales of Sex, Success, and the City.

Three actors perform in My First Ex-Husband. Joy Behar wrote the script and acts in it. Monologues weave through the evening, pulling from actual accounts of love and breakups.

Behar built the show after talking with people who'd split from their partners. Rose Caiola and Cyrena Esposito helped bring the project to life as producers.

Bay Street hosted the debut in August 2024. The show then moved to MMAC Theatre Off-Broadway in January 2025. Last August, George Street Playhouse staged it at The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.

Bushnell performs twice on Feb. 19 — once at 3 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. She wrote the Sex and the City books and now tells stories about Manhattan, Studio 54, and her life in fashion and publishing. One woman. One stage. Lots of tales.

For more than five decades, George Street Playhouse has produced shows in New Brunswick. It was the first theater company in town. After years at various spots around the city, the company settled into the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center during the 2019-20 season.

Two theaters exist within the building. The Arthur Laurents Theater fits 253 guests, while The Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater accommodates 465.

Edgar Herrera took over as Executive Director in January 2025. Before that, he worked as Managing Director. David Saint guided the playhouse as Artistic Director from 1997 through 2025.

Several shows that started here went on to bigger stages. American Son premiered at George Street Playhouse in 2017, then opened on Broadway in 2018 with Kerry Washington and Stephen Pasquale in the lead roles.

Tickets begin at $55. VIP packages run $125 and include a chance to meet the performers after the show. The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center sits at 11 Livingston Ave. in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
