New Egypt Speedway Main Oval To Close in 2026, Property On Market for $8.5 Million
The 48-acre motorsports site in Ocean County has been listed at $8.5 million. Owner Fred Vahlsing made the call to shut down racing operations.

New Egypt Speedway's main dirt track won't run in 2026. The 48-acre motorsports site in Ocean County has been listed at $8.5 million. Owner Fred Vahlsing made the call to shut down racing operations after steering the track for 19 years.
According to Shore News Network the grounds at 720 Pinehurst Road in Plumsted Township hold a 7/16-mile, D-shaped clay oval. Dirt modified and sprint car teams from across the region have raced here for decades. A 5,000-square-foot sports building from 1970 sits on-site, along with track infrastructure and equipment that could get racing started again.
Vahlsing chose to skip another season. He's willing to sell or lease to someone who wants to bring back racing.
Zoning shows RD1 in a rural development area. Records list it as a single-tenant building. Marketing materials pitch the property as turnkey for motorsports or possible redevelopment — if local boards approve.
The main oval sits quiet, but other parts keep moving. The quarter midget track will stay active under the South Jersey Quarter Midget Association.
Truck parking, leased space, and VP Racing Fuels sales will continue at the location, separate from the weekly dirt racing that made this place known.
News of the shutdown rattled drivers, crews, and fans who see the speedway as a cornerstone. Teams rolled in from several counties during peak months, packing the pits and stands.
The listing prices the property at $1,700 per square foot and factors in business worth. Parking calculates to 10 spaces per 1,000 square feet.
