Lane closures began Monday on Route 22 in Somerset County. They'll last nearly two weeks. This happens as part of an $8.5 million state-funded maintenance job that includes fixing median concrete barriers separating traffic.
Starting at 9 a.m. Monday and continuing until 5:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, workers will close the left lane and shoulder on Route 22 East and West between Malcolm Avenue and the Walmart Shopping Center, according to Patch.com. One lane stays open throughout construction.
Drivers should expect delays. Use caution. Slow down when passing through.
The state-funded maintenance covers concrete structure repairs across seven counties: Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, and Warren. The $8.5 million initiative spans multiple locations throughout this region.
Traffic patterns will shift for 13 days. Crews will work during daytime and overnight hours.
Construction teams will fix median concrete barriers that separate eastbound and westbound traffic lanes. These repairs are part of ongoing maintenance efforts across state highways in the area.
The job is part of regular infrastructure maintenance. Officials haven't announced any additional closures past the March 14 completion date.
Traffic patterns return to normal once crews finish on March 14. The closure affects a stretch between Malcolm Avenue and the shopping center in North Plainfield.
