State Theatre New Jersey will host Diana Krall on Friday, March 20, at 8 p.m. She's touring in 2026. The venue sits at 15 Livingston Ave. in New Brunswick.

The New York Times described the performer as having "A voice at once cool and sultry, wielded with a rhythmic sophistication." Tickets begin at $79. Purchase them through Stnj.org.

Diana Krall stands as the sole jazz singer with eight albums debuting atop the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. Her recordings have garnered two GRAMMY Awards and 10 Juno Awards. She's collected nine gold albums, three platinum, and seven multi-platinum.

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, she started piano lessons at age 4. At 15, she played jazz in local clubs. Her father played stride piano and knew the works of Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, and Earl Hines — he pushed her toward a life in music.

"I think Dad had every recording Fats Waller ever made," she said, according to New Jersey Stage.com, "and I tried to learn as many as I could."

She won a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston during her teens. Two years later, she relocated to Los Angeles. There she connected with bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton, pianist-singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, who mentored her musically.

Montreal-based Justin Time Records issued her first album, Stepping Out, in 1993. A year passed. She signed with GRP Records and cut Only Trust Your Heart, featuring Ray Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone. This album launched her partnership with Tommy LiPuma, which lasted until his death in 2017.

Her big break arrived in 1999 when she released When I Look in Your Eyes, her first project for Verve record label. The album held the No. 1 position on Billboard's Jazz chart for 52 weeks, claimed two GRAMMY Awards, and achieved platinum status in both the U.S. and Canada.

Film soundtracks have featured her music. She's collaborated with Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, and Tony Bennett. Her tours span North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
