The Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music will open at Monmouth University this summer. University President Patrick F. Leahy, Ed.D., broke the news during an interview on "Lessons in Leadership," hosted by Steve Adubato on News12+.

Per Monmouth.edu, Leahy said the project "turned into what we believe will be one of the great cultural assets, not only in New Jersey, but in the entire country." The center will house Springsteen's archives. It will also tell the story of American music as a whole.

The broader scope came at Springsteen's request, according to Leahy. The musician wanted the center to hold not only his archives but also tell the story of American music as a whole.

Leahy appeared on the show on March 24. He discussed what it means to lead an institute of higher education and the partnerships moving the school forward.

He shared that 55% of the most recent incoming class are first-generation and/or Pell Grant-eligible. The school has been working to make a first-rate private education more accessible.

Leahy also discussed a partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health, which aims to produce qualified health care professionals and benefit the community.
