Edison Township awarded contracts worth $478,080 to build an all-inclusive playground at 100 Municipal Blvd. The playground marks America's 250th anniversary. Council members discussed this project during Monday's work session.
MRC, Inc. of Sea Girt will supply and install playground equipment for $337,730. Whirl Construction, Inc. of Port Monmouth handles site preparation work for $140,350.
Both vendors received contracts through a state-approved cooperative purchasing agreement. The playground meets ADA compliance standards. Kids and families of all abilities can use it.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to provide meaningful tributes to the 250th anniversary of the United States here in Edison Township," said Mayor Sam Joshi, according to Patch. "This playground will provide a tangible tribute to this historic milestone in our community."
Edison 250 events and initiatives commemorate the national milestone, and this project is part of that series. Money comes from the township's parks improvement account.
The new facility will sit at the municipal complex location. It's designed to serve residents of all abilities. Construction begins after Whirl Construction, Inc. finishes site preparation.
The United States turns 250 in 2026. This playground serves as a permanent marker. Township officials want the space to serve families for generations.
MRC, Inc. operates out of Sea Girt and specializes in playground equipment installation. Whirl Construction, Inc., based in Port Monmouth, will prep the site before installation starts.
The parks improvement account funds recreation projects throughout Edison. This allocation ranks among the bigger investments in recent park improvements.
Officials haven't announced when the project will finish. Monday's work session approved vendor contracts and moved construction plans ahead.
