Six Flags Great Adventure has installed the first track sections for a new roller coaster set to open in 2027. Workers lifted steel into place this week. The ride, known as The Purple Project, hit a construction milestone with the start of vertical construction in Jackson, New Jersey.

Cranes hoisted the first pieces of track into position on a plot next to the now-demolished Kingda Ka coaster. Installation marks "a defining step where the layout of the ride starts to take shape in real time," park officials said, per patch.com.

Sections arrived at the facility in recent weeks. Details about the coaster remain undisclosed.

"Guests visiting the park will now begin to see the scale of this new attraction come to life with each passing day as it starts to define the park's evolving skyline," officials said.

Park officials said visitors will be able to watch the ride "rise" in real time throughout the summer. This attraction will become the park's 15th coaster when it opens next year.

The facility is entering its 52nd season. Construction crews are working on two separate coasters. A second roller coaster with a blue track is being built in The Boardwalk area and will open sooner than the 2027 attraction.

The blue coaster will be the park's 14th roller coaster. It's part of what the company says is a major transformation. "The Boardwalk coaster will anchor the reimagined area, bringing a fresh mix of family thrills and classic seaside energy to one of the park's most dynamic spaces," park officials said, according to patch.com.

The Boardwalk transformation is set to debut in late spring. Park officials will announce more details about both coasters soon.

A season passholder preview takes place March 27 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The 2026 season opens to the general public on March 28.
