Edison Township Launches Restaurant Passport To Attract World Cup Visitors

Edison Township rolled out a Restaurant Passport program to prepare for World Cup crowds. Travelers arriving in New Jersey with official passports can grab the township's version at restaurants and hotels.
Officials plan to distribute 10,000 to 20,000 passports. Each booklet lists over 400 eateries. Participating restaurants will provide stamps tied to their cuisine type.
"Edison is the restaurant capital of New Jersey. We have the most locally owned restaurants in the state," said Mayor Sam Joshi, according to Long Island News12.com.
The township sits just over 30 miles from MetLife Stadium, where matches will take place. Officials think this spot will pull in visitors despite the distance.
"We are right in between East Rutherford and Philadelphia. Geographically, it's an ideal location for anyone that coming for the World Cup," Joshi said.
Restaurants are bracing for higher demand. Spice 24 said it's hiring extra staff and prepping more food. Taco Empreso anticipates international fans and is installing large TVs for match days.
Visitors can gather stamps during their stay. Fill the passport and you're eligible for prizes.
"At one point or another you're going to be crossing through our roads anyway. So stop here and make sure you eat," Joshi said.
The program seeks to capitalize on the expected wave of international visitors coming to New Jersey for the tournament. The mayor expressed confidence that the township is ready.
